The Jacksonville Jaguars executed the inevitable when they cut running back Chris Ivory following the 2017 NFL season. Now, the veteran workhorse has already jumped to a head start on potential landing spots for next year.
Ivory has been making his rounds as of late after visiting with the Buffalo Bills on Monday. According to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport, he has two more meetings lined up, the first one coming on Tuesday with the Cleveland Browns:
“Former Jaguars RB Chris Ivory is visiting the Browns today, source said. He was with the Bills yesterday and has a visit tomorrow, too. Cleveland could lose RB Isaiah Crowell to free agency.”
Cleveland certainly makes sense as a possible destination. The uncertain future of their running back position got even more cloudy with Isaiah Crowell expected to explore his other options in free agency. He let it be known during the season that he was unhappy with his lightened workload.
That said, Ivory could be a prime candidate to fill in. The eight-year veteran signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars hoping to help revitalize a lackluster rushing attack. However, that did not happen until 2017 with the drafting of running back Leonard Fournette.
As a result, Ivory largely served as a complimentary back whenever Fournette needed a breather. He ran for 382 yards and a touchdown while also hauling in 21 receptions for 175 yards and a touchdown. That said, Ivory's versatile skill set and veteran status make him a seamless fit for any team trying to add some running back depth.
