The NFL is a man’s game, and much has changed to the game when it comes to the days it was still a budding team in the 1920s. However, The Fritz Pollard Alliance has something to say about the current employment picture for people of color. They called the unequal coaching statistic as unequal between the two sides.

In a statement that was released by the organization, they criticized the league for the lack of black head coaches in the league. They explained in their statement that they refuse to accept these policies as the norm.

Per The Athletic:

“We cannot expect fairness if business remains status quo,” the statement said. It also called the NFL’s diversity hiring record “abysmal.”

The Fritz Pollard Alliance is composed of NFL scouts, coaches, and front-office personnel. Their main purpose is to promote equal opportunities to everyone involved for black coaches. However, fans saw over the past couple of days that not a lot of black coaches got a shot to interview for the position. They are named after Fritz Pollard, a former player who got his shot at a coach for two years.

This situation paints a poor picture for many NFL fans. Their favorite league is still not as equal as they hoped it would be, and their lack of openness to coaches of color is impeding the league from becoming fully accepting of black authority figures in the league.

It may take a while before the league becomes fully accepting of black players. Until then, black coaches will fight to get a slot at the table.
