Another staple in the NFL's football operations may or may not be temporarily removed in the upcoming 2020 season in light of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. The league's Pro Bowl is one of the most celebrated events in the football scene, commemorating the season's best offensive and defensive players. The 2020 NFL season may look a tad different without the annual event.

Mike Garafolo of NFL Media tweeted the developments on Twitter:

Even though there is still no final word on the cancellation of the said event, the elimination of the pay involved is indicative of that being major possibility. With the coronavirus still raging on, why would the NFL bring players from all over the country to Las Vegas for an experience that, given the pandemic protocols, will hardly be a week of rest and relaxation? Pushing through with the event will only defeat its purpose of giving the players a short mid-season break.

The only way the Pro Bowl can possibly push through is when a vaccine for the virus is already developed and distributed by late January. Otherwise, the event will just be a hotbed for a coronavirus spree.

According to the New York Times, the coronavirus positive cases in America already exceeded 4.1 million cases with the death toll recording over 145,000 cases. The NFL won't bother to risk adding numbers to an already worrying tally.

Despite the elimination of the Pro Bowl pay, the regular season is going to push through with the scheduled dates. Full-team rosters are expected to report to their respective teams' training camps starting on July 28. The upcoming season's kickoff game will commence on September 10 which will feature defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs against the Houston Texans.
