Following his arrest on Wednesday, NFL cornerback Richard Sherman has been charged with five misdemeanors and is set to appear in court later on Friday afternoon.

Richard Sherman was released on Thursday and posted an apology on Friday.

According to the Seattle Times, the driving misdemeanors that Sherman is being charged with are the more serious offenses.

Sherman was charged with criminal trespass in the second degree with a domestic- violence element; reckless endangerment of roadway crews, driving under the influence, resisting arrest and malicious mischief with a domestic-violence element. The DUI and reckless endangerment charges are gross misdemeanors, punishable by up to 364 days in jail and a $5,000 fine. The other charges are simple misdemeanors, which carry a maximum possible 90-day jail term. – Via Seattle Times.

Richard Sherman was arrested early Wednesday morning at his wife's parents house after trying to break through the front door. It took a police dog to help finally get Sherman contained by the police.

In his apology on Friday, Sherman said he was remorseful for his actions while pointing out the importance of mental health.

“I am deeply remorseful for my actions on Tuesday night,” Richard Sherman wrote on Twitter. “I behaved in a manner I am not proud of. I have been dealing with some personal challenges over the last several months, but that is not an excuse for how I acted. The importance of mental and emotional health is extremely real, and I vow to get the help I need.”

Let's hope he does get the help that he needs.
