Johnny Manziel has made it clear that he would like to play in the XFL, but it takes two to tango and there are still some questions if the XFL want him in the league. When asked if the XFL had interest in Manziel, the league didn't give a very clear cut answer.

“Well, I don’t know that yet,” XFL Commissioner Oliver Luck told Tom Schad of USA Today over the weekend. “That remains to be seen.”

The XFL league is set to kick off next February and the league is currently holding tryouts in each of the eight cities where a team will be housed.

One guy that was not invited to a tryout was Manziel but Luck said that is not something that should be read into.

“There are a lot of guys that played in the AAF and played all seven games or whatever they had,” Luck said. “We didn’t invite them here because we’ve got enough tape on them. So Johnny has some tape, right? Whether it’s Canada — and we have two coaches from the CFL, [Marc] Trestman and June Jones. Or there’s college. What he did obviously in the NFL.”

Manziel was kicked out of the CFL and there are still some questions about the off the field issues that he is dealing with. The XFL does need a star of the league or it will fail out like other startup leagues.

Manziel is still must-watch TV and there is no doubt if he is on the field, people will tune in.
