As NFL training camp winds down and the regular season approaches, things tend to get chippy. Players get sick of going at each other day after day, but there are also still plenty of guys fighting for roster spots.

The last few days have brought numerous scuffles around the league, and the New York Jets and Washington Redskins got into a real donnybrook during a joint practice over the weekend. (h/t Sporting News).

Things really got out of hand!

Apparently, the action on the field got some fans so fired up that they even started going at each other. Just a wild scene.

The Jets and Redskins had three joint practices scheduled in advance of their preseason matchup on Thursday night.

New York won its first preseason game over the Atlanta Falcons by a score of 17-0. Rookie quarterback Sam Darnold went 13-for-18 for 96 yards and a touchdown in the win, and he may get his first start on Thursday.

Washington suffered a 26-17 defeat to the New England Patriots in its preseason opener. New Redskins quarterback Alex Smith didn't suit up in that game, but the veteran should get a look with his new team against New York.

Both the Jets and Redskins missed the playoffs last season.
