The Arizona Cardinals are coming off a 5-10-1 regular-season record during the 2019 season. They will be looking to improve their record to finish better than last in one of the absolute most difficult divisions in the NFL next season.
In order to experience improved results during the 2020 season, the Cardinals will need to find success with their selections in the upcoming NFL Draft. The N0. 8 selection is crucial in those efforts. Setting the tone early on draft day by selecting a dynamic talent could help further establish a foundation for Arizona to build upon for years to come.
Aside from the Kyler Murray pick, the 2019 class of draft selections by the Cardinals has yet to translate sufficient results, so they will need to do better this offseason. There's still plenty of time for those players to develop and turn in successful NFL careers. However, the need to achieve quicker results seems intensified.
There will be no shortage of options for the Cardinals when they are on the clock ready to make their selection with the No. 8 overall pick. Despite having plenty of prospects to pick from, there are already two potential choices that seem perfect for Arizona.
2. Jedrick Wills, OT (Alabama)
There is a clear need for the Cardinals to continue to bolster their offensive line. Managing to give Kyler Murray more time to throw the football would go a long way. In addition, having more impactful blocking help for the variety of talented running backs they have wouldn't hurt either.
One player to help address this would be Alabama offensive tackle Jedrick Wills. Managing to sure up the tackle position could prove to be quite important when considering D.J. Humphries and Marcus Gilbert are both set to become unrestricted free agents this offseason.
1. CeeDee Lamb, WR (Oklahoma)
The pre-existing connection between Murray and Oklahoma wide receiver CeeDee Lamb share dating back to college is clear. The rationale behind Lamb being a great target for the Cardinals in the draft isn't based on this fact either. He would bring a needed receiving threat that would make Arizona quite versatile in the passing game.
Let's not forget, Larry Fitzgerald will be retiring at some point in the near future and adding more reliable targets is important. At 6'2″, the Cardinals would find a strong replacement option for Fitzgerald is relatively comparable in size. All the while, Lamb would be able to watch what it takes to be a top receiver alongside Fitzgerald for at least a full season.
