Denver Broncos General Manager John Elway will have his work cut out for him in search of a new head coach to replace Vance Joseph. Elway will need to make it a point to have personal time with the candidates that the Broncos are planning to interview.

According to ESPN senior writer Jeff Legwold, Broncos president/CEO Joe Ellis stated the importance of Elway having one-on-one conversations with head coaching candidates.

“The important thing, and one of the things I told John … is make sure you spend a considerable amount of time with the candidate one-on-one, and John agreed. You kick everybody out of the room and you get a good feel for where this next coach is coming from and the philosophy, scheme, leadership, all of that stuff, which John knows and John understands. As I said, I’m very confident that he’ll pick the right coach.”

The candidates that Denver's front office has turned their attention to are Chicago Bears defensive coordinator Vic Fangio, Steelers offensive line coach Mike Munchak, and former Indianapolis Colts head coach Chuck Pagano. Patriots defensive coordinator Brian Flores and Rams quarterback coach Zac Taylor are also candidates, but both the Patriots and Rams are still contending for a Super Bowl.

The Broncos have a talented roster, however, it is light years away from what it has been in recent years. Quarterback Case Keenum struggled for most of the 2018 season which was a huge disappointment after his fantastic 2017 season. The Broncos lack playmakers aside from running back Phillip Lindsay, and the defensive is nowhere near its elite form of recent years. The next head coach will surely have their work cut out, but Denver has a good foundation to work with.
