The Carolina Panthers were defeated convincingly by the Buffalo Bills last week. One of the most memorable plays from the game occurred on a 4th-and-1 play, in which Panthers quarterback Cam Newton, who was blitzed heavily, opted to pass instead of hand the ball on the option play, ultimately throwing the ball to no one. The play drew criticism from head coach Matt Rhule to which Newton offered a response.

Panthers quarterback Cam Newton isn't even going to go there. Newton is probably fuming about the fact that Rhule publicly criticized him seemingly before watching film of the play. Rhule did seem to walk back the comments, saying that he could see what his signal-caller was thinking but that the preferred play there was the run.

However, Newton took the high road and didn't create any more drama than there already is surrounding he and Rhule by pulling a leaf out of New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick's book, saying that his sole focus is preparing for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Newton has five rushing touchdowns in four starts but hasn't passed the ball well, throwing for just four scores while completing less than 55 percent of his passes.

Panthers fans will have to hope that things are good between Cam Newton and Matt Rhule- or the team will very likely lose their fifth straight game against the Buccaneers.
