Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton underwent surgery on his right shoulder last week and said on Wednesday that so far everything has been good.

“It's good. It's good,” Newton said of his shoulder during a morning appearance on radio 680 The Fan in Atlanta via ESPN.”It's better than I thought it would be. With so much going on throughout this season, I was in fear to see what actually was wrong.”

Team physician Pat Connor who repaired Newton's partially torn rotator cuff in 2017 also did this procedure which the team said was an arthroscopic surgery. The team tried to downplay Newton's shoulder injury all year but it was clear there was something wrong.

The Panthers would bring in Taylor Heinicke to throw the Hail Mary at the end of the half or games and Newton was limited to only doing short throws down the field. With the Panthers eliminated from the playoffs, Newton did sit out the final two games of the season. Newton did admit that as the season went on he didn't know how much his shoulder really could do.

“That's what was so frustrating,” Newton said on Wednesday. “It didn't matter how much I would grunt, how much I would muscle up and throw it, it wasn't going far. You're looking at your arm like, ‘Geez, Louise! What's really the issue?

Newton wouldn't comment on how long the injury will hold him out but the most important thing for Newton is that this surgery helps Newton get back to the player he was before his shoulder started to bother him.
