The Carolina Panthers have signed wide receiver Chris Hogan to a one-year deal, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
Hogan spent the 2018 campaign with the New England Patriots, playing in all 16 games and hauling in 35 receptions for 532 yards and three touchdowns.
The 30-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Monmouth University, went undrafted but eventually landed with the Buffalo Bills in 2012.
He did not play at all that ensuing season, but the following year, Hogan appeared in all 16 contests, logging just 10 catches for 83 yards. His role then began to expand in 2014, as he caught 41 passes for 426 yards and four scores.
Hogan proceeded to spend one more year with the Bills in 2015, snaring 36 balls for 450 yards while reaching the end zone twice.
The New Jersey native then signed a three-year contract with the Patriots in March 2016, and during his first season in New England, he was impressive, registering 38 catches for 680 yards and four touchdowns. His 17.9-yard per catch average represented the best mark in the NFL that year.
Then, the following season, Hogan participated in just nine games due to injury, finishing with 34 receptions for 439 yards and five scores.
The Panthers are coming off of a 2018 campaign in which they won just seven games in spite of getting off to a 6-2 start on the year. Carolina looked primed to contend in the NFC over the first half of the season, but a shoulder injury to Cam Newton was a massive blow to the Panthers down the stretch. Newton played through the issue for a while but was then shut down for the final two games of the season.
