The biggest storyline surrounding the Carolina Panthers has been the progression of quarterback Cam Newton. Regardless, the overall focus for his areas of improvement remains the same.

The Panthers had ushered in some new changes with the hope of helping Newton get back to his MVP-caliber form. According to Jourdan Rodrigue the Charlotte Observer, offensive coordinator Norv Turner says the team is emphasizing efficiency once again.

“It started specifically last year with his footwork, and keeping compact. Making sure his feet and his eyes were working together. And that’s where we really started,” Turner said. “And then it has carried over into this offseason as far as making him a little more compact in his upper body, a little bit more closed-off so he’s not as open throwing the ball. And just to make him as efficient as possible, while putting the least amount of stress on — I mean, you’re going to put stress on your arm. It’s throwing a football, it’s not a natural movement. But as little as we can on his shoulder, just to take care of him.”

The 2018 campaign had gotten off to a stellar start in Carolina. Unfortunately, their success quickly dwindled with Newton's health. When it became apparent that he could no longer deliver the deep ball, the offense became a bit one-dimensional down the stretch. Turner is hoping that the Panthers can potentially pick up where they left off at that point in the season.

It is safe to say that Carolina's success will rely heavily on Newton's health. He appears to have made some tremendous strides in his recovery after undergoing shoulder surgery in the offseason. The team has even taken the liberty of showing off his progression by displaying all of his throws via social media. The Panthers seem to be confident that he will be 100 percent for the start of the 2019 NFL season.
