Carolina Panthers head coach Ron Rivera believes that tight end Greg Olsen will return to the field for the 2019 season.

Olsen has dealt with injury issues over the past few years and most recently suffered a ruptured plantar fascia that will keep him sidelined for the rest of the season.

So, with the veteran tight end enduring multiple injury setbacks over the past few seasons, it makes sense that there would be speculation surrounding his playing future in the NFL.

But Rivera seems to be of the opinion that Olsen will be ready to rehab and get back to playing the game he loves, according to Panthers writer Max Henson.

Olsen had 27 receptions for 291 yards and four touchdowns this season while playing in nine games. He played just seven games during the 2017 campaign, where injuries also forced him to miss significant time on the field.

The injury to Olsen has been one of many things that have gone wrong for Carolina during the six-game losing streak, with Rivera's team all but officially out of the playoff picture after starting 6-2 overall.

That has resulted in the Panthers choosing to shut down Cam Newton for the rest of the season, which makes a lot of sense considering how obvious the shoulder injuries have been for the star quarterback.

The Panthers will attempt to stop their losing skid when they turn their attention to a Week 16 matchup against the Atlanta Falcons before finishing up the regular season with a rematch with the New Orleans Saints.
