Shortly before they traded for Odell Beckham Jr., the Cleveland Browns made a smaller move that will now get swallowed up by the Beckham news. The Browns are re-signing defensive lineman Carl Davis, the team announced on Twitter.

No terms of the deal were immediately disclosed, but it's likely nothing too lucrative. Davis was originally drafted in the third round by the Ravens out of Iowa back in 2015. He spent the first three seasons of his career in Baltimore, but eventually found himself on the outside looking in. The Ravens waived him at final cuts last September, and the Browns pounced.

Davis was widely regarded around the league as one of the best players who got cut, and the Browns were able to claim him by having the first waiver claim spot. Davis played sparingly for the Browns and appeared in only five games, logging just 31 defensive snaps.

In 2017 Smith was a major contributor for the Ravens, appearing in 15 games and starting nine. Even though Smith has been re-signed, he barely got on the field last year and is far from a lock to make the 53-man roster. If he does survive roster cut-downs, he'll likely be one of the last players on the roster and serve as little more than deep depth. The Browns also signed Sheldon Richardson earlier today, and Richardson is obviously a much-bigger difference make along the defensive line.
