The Cleveland Browns have contacted Mike McCarthy about their head coaching vacancy, per John Kryk of The Toronto Sun.
McCarthy has strong ties to Cleveland. He and Browns general manager John Dorsey worked together for seven years in Green Bay. He is also familiar with other members of the Browns’ front office who came from the Packers organization.
McCarthy has been linked with a number of head coaching jobs since getting fired from the Packers on Dec. 3. He’s reportedly interested in the Arizona Cardinals job, who are reportedly willing to offer him full control of the football side. He has also been linked with the Browns, Buccaneers, Seahawks, and Jets at various points over the past month.
However, McCarthy remains uncertain whether he will return to coaching immediately in 2019 and will be willing to wait until he finds a perfect fit.

If McCarthy does take the Browns job, he’ll have a promising young quarterback at his disposal in Baker Mayfield. Mayfield just broke the NFL record for most touchdown passes for a rookie quarterback with 27 on the year. And that’s after becoming the full-time starter only in Week 4.
With Mayfield leading a talented young roster, the Browns finished the season 7-7-1, which is quite a turnaround from the past two years, where they went 1-31 under Jackson.
