The Cleveland Browns recently welcomed back wide receiver Josh Gordon following a brief hiatus from football to get his personal affairs in order. It appears he now has his sights set on the start of the 2018 NFL season.

It has been difficult to gauge Gordon's return given his track record. However, according to Nick Shook of NFL.com, he plans to play in the season opener versus the Pittsburgh Steelers:

“Week 1, regular season. That is my focus,” Gordon told reporters. “It is. That's what I've been told to do. That's what I plan on doing.”

It is encouraging to see that Gordon is confident his return to the field. Although he intends to play, the capacity at which still has yet to be determined. Head coach Hue Jackson indicated that he will not start even if he is ready to go. However, that does not mean he will be relegated to a reserve role. After all, his return could not be more ideal with the Steelers coming to town.

Cleveland has already made it clear that they will rely on wide receiver Jarvis Landry as their top receiving option. That said, the prospect of Gordon playing alongside him has given Cleveland reasonable hope for a potential turnaround on offense. The NFL's reigning receptions leader has undoubtedly solidified himself as one of the league's premier wideouts. However, it is safe to say that Gordon's ceiling is much higher when it comes to exploiting defenses. If all goes well, they could very well be the most talented 1-2 punch in the NFL at their position.
