The Cleveland Browns have been optimistic about wide receiver Josh Gordon's status going into the 2018 NFL season. It appears they have good reason to with the preseason finally in the books.

Cleveland recently welcomed Gordon back after a brief hiatus to get his personal affairs in order. According to Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com, head coach Hue Jackson says he will practice starting Monday ahead of their season opener:

Browns Jackson said Gordon will practice on Monday, the next time out for the team in prep for Steelers. A little bit more than limited. “He'll get into the route-running” aspect of it.

Needless to say, this is encouraging news for Browns fans. Gordon has made significant strides in his return process this offseason. It appears he will be good to go for the start of the regular season.

Despite Gordon's active status, Jackson has indicated that he will likely not get the start in Week 1. That does not mean that his role will be restricted in any way throughout the game.

In fact, there is a very good chance that he comes in immediately considering the Browns will be hosting the rival Pittsburgh Steelers. Jackson has talked a lot about Cleveland's potential resurgence this year. A victory over the Steelers in the season opener would certainly make a statement.

The Browns have made it clear that they will rely heavily on wide receiver Jarvis Landry as their top wideout. However, Gordon's presence could be the x-factor this offense needs to help get it established. Do not be surprised if Gordon etches out a significant role for himself right out of the gate.
