Myles Garrett can see the Cleveland Browns winning it out to make the playoffs. Not for the fans, however, but for his teammates, who have put in blood, sweat and tears into the season, only to watch Cleveland go 2-6 through the first half of the season.
“I’m more worried about us winning than giving wins to the fans,’’ Garrett said on Friday, via Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com. “It’s always nice, but I’m worried about the guys in this room, that’s who’s going to stick with us through thick and thin. … But I believe in (the fans), and they’ve always supported us.”
The Browns will face the 6-2 Buffalo Bills at home on Sunday. From there, they have the 4-4 Pittsburgh Steelers at home on Thursday, then another home game versus the 1-7 Miami Dolphins.
After facing the hapless ‘Fins, Cleveland will not play an opponent with over a .500 record until they host the Baltimore Ravens in Week 16. Sandwiched in-between that is face-offs with the Arizona Cardinals, Cincinnati Bengals and Steelers with their regular-season closer against the Bengals.
“I don't see why we can't be 10-6,’’ Garrett said. “There's eight more games and that's eight more opportunities. I don't care what the previous record has shown, I don't care what they've said has happened before. You go out there with the right mindset and good amount of want to, you know what the hell you're doing, you have your fundamentals down, you can go out there and play with anybody. Those three or four plays can go either way and you get those to swing your direction, we can make a run for it.’’
The Browns have the schedule to win-out. Just two of their last eight games come against opponents with winning records; both are at home. Five of their last eight are in Cleveland. However, they have not been particularly good at home in 2019, going 0-3 at the Dawgpound. Only time will tell if that changes.
