Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett got lucky last week when he avoided a 15-yard penalty and possible ejection after delivering a smack to Tennessee Titans tight end Delanie Walker. While Garrett was able to continue playing throughout the game, he later admitted that he wouldn’t be doing anything like that again.

Speaking about the issue, Garrett seemed to acknowledge the smack, saying that it wasn’t like him and that it wouldn’t happen again. Still, it seems as if Garrett will be appealing the NFL’s decision to fine him, even if for the normalcy of it all.

“Yeah, usually I don’t let things like that get to me and I won’t let it happen again,’’ he said (via Pro Football Talk). “I’ll appeal if I get fined. Of course I at least have to try.’’

Garrett’s miscue on Sunday was just one of many for the Browns, who committed 18 penalties for 182 yards in their loss against the Titans. While some of that can be chalked up to Week 1 sloppiness, the Browns also looked hardly like the playoff team that many thought they would be. Baker Mayfield finished the game with three interceptions, and the Browns offensive line was unable to keep him clean for a majority of the game.

After the loss, the Browns will now travel to New York to play the Jets and will have a bit of an easier go of things after the team announced that quarterback Sam Darnold would be out multiple weeks after being diagnosed with mono. With Le’Veon Bell also nursing an injury, the Browns may look at this game as a chance correct course on the season, and get into the win column.
