Kyler Murray may very well end up being the No. 1 overall pick in this year's NFL Draft, and if that does occur, it would mark the second year in a row that an Oklahoma quarterback was taken first overall.
Of course, last season, the Cleveland Browns decided to go with Baker Mayfield with the top selection, and Mayfield rewarded the Browns with a spectacular rookie campaign.
Murray spent one season as Mayfield's backup in 2017, and he recently spoke on what he learned from his former teammate:
“I learned a lot from Blake, and aside from him being one of my good friends, it wasn't really anything he just told me as far as ‘you need to do this, you need to do that to succeed',” said Murray, via Josh Edwards of 247 Sports. “He knows talent when he sees it. We have this respect for each other off the field and on the field, so I think moreso just getting to watch him operate, see how he works.”
Momentum has been building toward the Arizona Cardinals drafting Murray with the first overall pick.
Murray is coming off a season in which he threw for 4,361 yards, 42 touchdowns and seven interceptions while completing 69 percent of his passes and registering a passer rating of 199.2. In addition, he rushed for 1,001 yards and 12 scores.
A multi-sport athlete, the 21-year-old was also selected by the Oakland Athletics in the first round of the MLB Draft back in June, but he has committed to football.
