Dallas Cowboys defensive end Randy Gregory has already met with Commissioner Roger Goodell and the NFL about his potential reinstatement to the league and is now waiting for the result of his application. He may have to wait a couple more weeks before finally getting a resolution on the matter.
According to Todd Archer of ESPN, the hope is that the league's decision about Gregory's potential reinstatement will come around the start of training camp, which begins at the end of the month.
Gregory filed his application sometime in late May/early June. Typically, the reinstatement process takes around 60 days after the league’s receipt of the application before a decision is made.
Article Continues BelowGregory, who was drafted in the second round by the Cowboys in 2015, was suspended for all of last season after multiple violations of the league’s substance abuse policy. He last appeared in the season finale in 2016 after he was also suspended for 14 games of that season due to substance abuse violations. Due to those multiple suspensions, he has played just 14 total games in the NFL since getting drafted and has recorded 20 tackles and a single sack during that time.
If reinstated, Gregory would become another piece in what is already a deep Cowboys defensive end rotation that includes the likes of DeMarcus Lawrence, Tyrone Crawford, Kony Ealy, Taco Charlton, Charles Tapper, and Datone Jones.
Gregory has a lot of work to do in order to break into that rotation after close to two full years out of the league. But at the very least, he has the talent to be a contributor for the Cowboys if he’s successfully able to get his career back on track.
