The Dallas Cowboys suffered a tough road loss at the hands of the New Orleans Saints on Sunday night, and they also lost a key member of their offense in the process.
According to Jon Machota of The Dallas Morning News, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said that left tackle Tyron Smith suffered a high-ankle sprain on Sunday evening. Ian Rapoport of NFL Network adds that Smith will undergo tests on Monday.
Obviously, if it turns out that Smith does, in fact, have a high-ankle sprain, he almost certainly will not play against the Green Bay Packers next week, as that is an injury that usually takes multiple weeks to heal.
Smith being injured is nothing new for Dallas, as he has missed three games apiece in each of the last three seasons, mainly due to back issues.
The 28-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of Southern California, was originally selected by the Cowboys with the ninth overall pick of the 2011 NFL Draft.
Article Continues BelowIt didn't take long for Smith to assert himself as one of the best offensive linemen in the league, as he made the Pro Bowl by his third year and has made six straight Pro Bowl appearances overall.
Smith has also earned a couple of First-Team All-Pro selections.
The Cowboys' loss to the Saints marked their first defeat of the season, and now, they will head back home to take on a Packers team that is also 3-1.
Dallas' first three wins came against opponents that currently have a combined record of 2-10.
