The Dallas Cowboys have officially reported to their 2019 training camp, but one prominent player has yet to show up. Running back Ezekiel Elliott was not on site for the team’s morning physical or conditioning run, according to a report from NFL Network’s Jane Slater.
My team sources tell me Ezekiel Elliott was not on site for the morning physical or conditioning run. I’m also told that while the #Cowboys can fine him it doesn’t necessarily mean they will. That’s at each team’s discretion.

According to Slater, Elliott is now officially able to be fined by the team for missing camp, but it doesn’t necessarily mean he will be. With the first practice for Dallas scheduled for tomorrow, there’s still time for Elliott to show up, but signs are beginning to point to the fact that he won’t be arriving anytime soon.
Article Continues BelowAccording to multiple reports earlier this week, Elliott – like many standout players – seems willing to hold out of training camp in an effort to secure a new contract. For Elliott, his hope seems to be to become the new highest-paid running back in the league, and with how talented he is and just how crucial he is to the Cowboys success, it wouldn’t be surprising to see him eventually get it.
However, contract negotiations are often a long and drawn-out process, and with the Cowboys able to fine Elliott at their discretion, it will be interesting to see just how far both sides take it. As practice is ready to kick off this year, Elliott can continue to stay away from camp in the hopes that it forces the Cowboys to do something, and the team can begin penalizing their star running back for doing so.
As for now, Elliott seems willing to take whatever happens if it means potential forcing a new deal.
