The Dallas Cowboys lost a nailbiter on Thursday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as Tom Brady executed yet another game-winning drive. The Cowboys watched Dak Prescott play a marvelous game and lost by just two points.
However, kicker Greg Zuerlein received some hate after the veteran missed two field goals and an extra point, essentially changing the outcome of the game. Nonetheless, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones spoke highly of Zuerlein, who underwent surgery and missed a good portion of the preseason to work his way back.
Jerry Jones on @1053thefan: “I felt like we paid the price of not really having our kicker during training camp. … The loss isn’t to be blamed on the kicker.” Jones said he still believes Greg Zuerlein is the long-term answer for them at kicker

Jones mentioned that they “paid the price” but didn't put the blame solely on Zuerlein. To be fair, he did kick a clutch 48-yard field goal with just 1:33 left in the game to put Dallas up by a point, but Tom Brady simply had too much time on the clock and marched down, leading to a Ryan Succop game-winner on NFL opening night.
Zuerlein's struggles were evident and he didn't look as comfortable, but it is a team effort, and Jones emphasized that he is still the long-term answer at the kicker position for the Cowboys.
Dallas will regroup and head west as they have a matchup next Sunday with Justin Herbert and the Los Angeles Chargers.
