There weren’t very many positives to take for Jerry Jones and the Cowboys after their 28-14 loss at home to the Tennessee Titans on Monday night. But Amari Cooper was one such bright spot. The new Cowboys wideout had five catches on eight targets for 58 yards and a touchdown on his Dallas debut.

Jones, who gave up a first-round pick to acquire Cooper, was not disappointed with what he saw from the team’s new receiver.

“I thought we did a very good job of showing his ability to basically create opportunities,” Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said per Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk. “And I thought he did. And I thought we used him really effectively. I thought we really had something going with him on a roll when we got the call when our tight end [was penalized for offensive pass interference].

“. . .I was not disappointed tonight in how Amari played tonight. He didn’t disappoint me as to expectations.”

Even before seeing Cooper in action, the Cowboys are already talking about giving him a contract extension. After surrendering a first-rounder to get him, the Cowboys are almost obligated at this point to keep Cooper long-term.

Over the past two years, Cooper has been unable to rediscover thePro Bowl-caliber play he displayed during his first two seasons with the league. But if his play against the Titans is a sign of things to come for him as a Cowboy, then he might just be worth whatever big-money deal Dallas hands him.
