Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones' comments about Ezekiel Elliott sure make it seem like the team is prepared to be without him for at least part of the regular season.

Jones made an appearance on The Fan's Shan & RJ show on Wednesday morning and said the two sides aren't any closer to a deal at this point. Jones said the team needs to be prepared to play without Elliott, and he has already said before he has confidence in the guys that are behind him.

“We may very well play without a player that's not coming in on his contract” said Jones when discussing the Elliott contract deal.

Jones was asked if Elliott's off the field behavior in the past has hampered the contract negotiations and the Hall of Famer said no and that he was very comfortable with Elliott off the field.

He also said that the main goal at this point is to have Elliott fresh for the playoffs, which seems to hint he could be out for a while.

“We've got a marathon here. We want Zeke when we get to the playoffs” said Jones. “We want Zeke when we're in the dog days of the season.”

The problem with counting on Zeke for the playoffs is he is a key part to the team getting there. How is the team so confident they can get into the playoffs without Elliott under center. With Elliott out the team can key more on Dak Prescott and make life even harder on him.
