To no one's surprise, Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott did not report to training camp on Friday, as he is searching for a new deal. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones termed Ezekiel's absence in an interesting way, however, merely claiming that the halfback is “late” to camp, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.
Jones' statement can be taken as an indication that he expects Elliott to show up for training camp at some point, but more than likely, this is just Jones trying to avoid discussing the fact that Elliott is holding out.
Of course, it's entirely possible that the Cowboys reach a new deal with Elliott sometime soon, but as of right now, the two sides are obviously at a stalemate, and it seems like Elliott will remain out until an agreement can be reached.
Elliott has two years remaining on his current contract and is scheduled to make $3.9 million in 2019 and $9.1 million in 2020, which is the fifth-year option the Cowboys picked up.

In addition, he hauled in 77 receptions for 567 yards and four scores en route to a Pro Bowl appearance.
Elliott, who played his collegiate football at Ohio State, was originally selected by Dallas with the fourth overall pick of the 2016 NFL Draft.
He went on to rack up a league-best 1,631 rushing yards while also scoring 15 touchdowns on the ground during his rookie year, earning a Pro Bowl appearance while also notching a First-Team All-Pro selection.
Elliott was then limited to just 10 games in 2017 as a result of a six-game suspension.
