The first time Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones saw Mike McCarthy, the coaching search was over because of the affection for each other. According to a source of Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, the first time the two met, it was “love at first sight.”
It makes sense that Jones saw something new after moving on from Jason Garrett and fell in love because he was used to the “old girlfriend” for so many years. After getting rid of someone that has been around for so long, the new person you see can do no wrong.
Jones took a long time to move on from Garrett officially, and it made some wonder if he was going to find a way to keep a job with the Cowboys. Once he finally decided to make his move, it didn't take long for Jones to target his next coach and close the deal.
McCarthy interviewed with Jones on Saturday and then spent the night at his house, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. According to one source, once someone spends the night at Jones' home, the deal is done.
It might be love at first sight now, but there are high expectations right now for McCarthy. The Cowboys have a talented team, and missing out on the playoffs in 2019 was nothing short of embarrassing.
If the Cowboys struggle this season, the love will probably be out of Jones' eyes, and there will probably be a lot of pushback on both guys because of the pressure to win.
