Amid the coronavirus pandemic affected the country and the entire world, many organizations are doing what they can to help those in need. With COVID-19 hitting the sports industry particularly hard, teams like the Denver Broncos are pledging what they can to aid the ongoing effort.

The Broncos announced on Twitter on Wednesday that they are donating $500,000 to the Colorado COVID-19 relief fund.

“The Colorado COVID Relief Fund is hosted by the State of Colorado and Mile High United Way. The fund will be overseen by a committee of community leaders from across Colorado and will be providing aid to support Colorado communities and organizations affected by the recent outbreak of COVID-19. Funds will provide flexible resources to organizations in our state working with communities who are disproportionately impacted by the outbreak,” Colorado Governor Jared Polis said in a Wednesday press conference.

With the coronavirus closing down businesses, events, and entire sports, many employees have been without a job as they are forced to quarantine themselves.

“I want to thank the Denver Broncos. … [we need] to have those resources to meet that very real need and very real pain that people are feeling,” Polis said.

On the field, the Broncos went 7-9 last season, missing the playoffs for the fourth-straight season after winning the Super Bowl in 2016.

Among other NFL teams and players who have contributed to the coronavirus relief are Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson and his wife Ciara, who donated one million meals to those in need and superstar Patrick Mahomes, who gave money and meals to the Kansas City community.
