The Detroit Lions were able to pull out a clutch victory against the Carolina Panthers in Week 11. Unfortunately, it came with a bit of a price after running back Kerryon Johnson was forced to exit early with a knee injury.

There was plenty of concern regarding the severity of the injury. Fortunately, according to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport, it appears to be just a knee sprain:

Lions RB Kerryon Johnson will have an MRI on his knee tomorrow, but the early word is that it’s a knee sprain — not an ACL tear. In the midst of an impressive rookie season, the initial tests seem to provide good news.

Lions' fans can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that it could have been much worse. An ACL tear would have sidelined Johnson well into the offseason. Fortunately, it seems he will be able to return in the regular season.

Johnson has enjoyed quite an impressive rookie campaign. The rookie was able to establish himself as Detroit's early-down at the beginning of the season. He has since managed to lead the team in rushing with 554 yards and two touchdowns. He also flashed some versatility with 32 receptions for 203 yards and a touchdown.

Johnson's emergence has also helped the Lions maintain a more balanced approach on offense. With him out, it is safe to assume that Detroit may revert to their more pass-heavy ways. Johnson's injury will open the door for running back LeGarrette Blount to get more carries while running back Theo Riddick maintains his role in the passing game.
