Through the last couple of weeks, New York Giants star wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. has seen his name prominently mentioned in trade rumors. Things have cooled on that front over the last few days that has left much uncertainty surrounding Beckham Jr.'s long-term future.

It has remained a fluid situation with the Giants sit vetting out all the options that with several teams voicing their interest in acquiring the Pro Bowl wideout. According to Ralph Vacchiano of SportsNet New York, the franchise is still unlikely to move on from the 25-year-old this offseason.

It's hard to imagine they would. And it remains “highly unlikely,” according to a highly placed team source. No one can rule out the possibility that they'd be blown away with an offer they can't refuse. But trading him – at least for now – is clearly not something they want to do.

All of this gives off the sense that unless New York blown away with a major offer from another team they will look to keep ahold of their star wideout. This would mean having to work out a lucrative extension with him at some point this offseason in order to avoid the possibility of him leaving the team empty-handed in free agency next March.

The behavioral issues aside, Beckham Jr. has more than proven to have the talent to be a long-term part of the puzzle as the centerpiece of the passing game. He is an elite talent at his position that many would arguably is the best in the league through his first four campaigns. He may be coming off a surgically-repaired ankle, but when healthy he is a game-changing asset in the offense that would significantly impact the Giants if they moved on from him.

With the draft quickly approaching later this month, things could change in this regard with the type of offers the Giants will receive. Time will tell if the organization is on board with making Beckham Jr. a centerpiece for the long haul.
