Aaron Jones and the Green Bay Packers are set to face another major NFC North rival in Week 2, as they will take on the Minnesota Vikings at Lambeau Field. After heading into Soldier Field and knocking off the Chicago Bears by a final score of 10-3, the Packers are feeling confident and have a lot of hype surrounding him.
The Vikings, on the other hand, came through with an impressive win of their own in Week 1. They were able to defeat the Atlanta Falcons by a final score of 28-12, with Kirk Cousins only having to throw 10 total passes, completing eight of them for 98 yards and a touchdown. Minnesota will be another tough test for the Packers.
One of the biggest keys for Matt LaFleur and the Green Bay offense will be getting their running game going. Jones only carried the football 13 times for 39 yards and no touchdowns against the Bears. Granted, Chicago has one of the best defenses in football, but the Vikings have a good defense themselves.
Last season, Jones put together a big year for Green Bay. He racked up 728 yards and eight touchdowns on 133 carries, which averaged out to a league-leading 5.5 yards per carry. Jones also caught 26 passes for 206 yards and a touchdown.
Green Bay heard a lot of hype surrounding their third-year running back this offseason. Many thought he would break out as the next star running back for the NFL. That wasn't the case in Week 1, but can he turn things around with a big Week 2 performance?
Quite simply, expectations should be tempered once again this week for Jones. He is going to have a lot of tough running against a quality defense, but he should have a better game than he had last week.
Article Continues BelowIt's never easy to predict a game for a player, especially early in the season and against a rival. That being said, it is very clear that LaFleur and the Packers want to get the ground game going to help take pressure off of Aaron Rodgers and the aerial attack. Jones should receive a decent sized role this week.
Reasonable expectations for Jones against the Vikings would be around 17 carries for 75 yards and a touchdown. He should also tack on a few receptions for 25 yards and may add another touchdown through the air depending on how creative LaFleur gets when Green Bay gets into the red zone.
One thing is for sure, which is the fact that the Packers' offense should look much better this week. That isn't to say anything negative about Minnesota, but more about the fact that Rodgers and the offense were playing their first live game with each other. It was also LaFleur's first full game as a head coach with full freedom.
Expect to see Jones put up a solid game against the Vikings. If you have him in Fantasy Football, it wouldn't be a bad idea to throw him into the lineup as an RB2. He might just have a breakout game for you this week.
