Although Green Bay Packers running back Aaron Jones did not enjoy the biggest day on the ground; he still managed to leave his mark with two touchdowns in the 27-16 victory over the Denver Broncos. It appears his performance has revealed a rather impressive trend.
According to Pro Football Focus, Jones is averaging more than five yards per carry up the middle thus far in his career:
Aaron Jones has (6) total TD's running up the middle after his pair of scores against the Broncos.
For his career, Jones is averaging 5.1 yards per attempt when running up the middle with 2.8 of those after contact.
This is certainly an impressive number regarding Jones' running style. While he is seen as the most electrifying option the Packers have in their backfield; it is clear that he has also proven to be quite elusive on inside runs.
Aside from the pair of touchdowns, Jones mustered up just 19 yards on 10 carries against Denver. The bigger day came from his backfield mate in running back Jamaal Williams, who finished with 59 yards on 12 carries. Williams' attributed his success on the ground to his ability to run in the rain while others were trying to find their footing.
Regardless, there is no denying that the Packers' still boast quite a 1-2 punch in the backfield. Regardless, it could only be a matter of time before Jones is able to take on the lion's share of touches between him and Williams given the efficiency he has shown with the ball in his hands.
