The Houston Texans made quite a few moves this offseason. They lost superstar wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins in a trade that most believe they came out as the big losers.
However, they added some great pieces as well, including the strong addition of wide receiver Brandin Cooks.
From 2015 through 2018, Cooks enjoyed a four-year stretch of consecutive 1,000 yard seasons. However, 2019 saw him record just 42 receptions for 583 yards and two touchdowns in 14 games.
More importantly, he missed time in 2019 due to concussion problems. Cooks has five documented concussions in his NFL career. That's a serious issue for the new Texans wideout, especially considering how common it is for concussions to go unaccounted.
According to Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle, Cooks is not concerned with his personal history of concussions.
“Zero,” Cooks said. “I’m not worried at all. If there was any hesitation or worry, I wouldn’t be here right now. I feel great. . . . Without going into specifics I’m comfortable and feel great and I look forward to doing what I have to do and giving it my all.”
It is always important to take comments like this with a grain of salt. Obviously, Cooks knows his body and health better than anyone else. But he's also a gamer.s
Players tend to want to play more than anything else. So sometimes they fib (even to themselves) about their situation.
With that in mind, it would not be all that surprising if Cooks was not exactly 100 percent at the moment for Houston. However, it's safe to assume that he truly does have zero worries about the situation.
He seems ready to get on the field and prove himself as one of the best playmaking receivers in the NFL.
Cooks could be a massive addition for the Texans and he could play a large role in replacing Hopkins.
It will be interesting to see how Houston and Cooks perform in 2020. But both seem ready to leave the past in the past, and prove doubters wrong.
