Deshaun Watson’s return to action after several months of absence lasted just one series on Thursday, but it was enough for Houston Texans fans to excite them for the upcoming season.

Seeing his first action in a live-game setup for the first time since sustaining a torn anterior cruciate ligament last season, Watson found Bruce Ellington in the only pass he threw on Thursday in a preseason match against the Kansas City Chiefs on the road.

In lieu of Watson, the Texans are relying heavily on Brandon Weeden in the ongoing contest, while Joe Webb is also getting some snaps.

Watson was fantastic for a rookie quarterback in 2017 until he suffered an injury during a practice in November. His injury left the Texans’ offense in shambles with Tom Savage and T.J. Yates failing to show that they’re capable backups to Watson.

The Texans were 3-4 in games last season in which Watson started. With Savage and Yates under center, the Texans went on 1-8 to conclude a highly disappointing campaign, though, the defense also lost key pieces in J.J. Watt and Whitney Mercilus.

Watson, who threw for 1,699 yards to go with 19 touchdowns against eight interceptions in seven games last season, will likely get more snaps next week when the Texans take on the San Francisco 49ers at home.
