Houston Texans second-year quarterback Deshaun Watson has remained on a steady pace in his recovery from a torn ACL that he has now received medical clearance to participate in training camp.

General manager Brian Gaine has voiced much praise toward Watson stating this encouraging progress in his rehab has been a testament to his work ethic, according to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk.

“I think it’s a testament to his work ethic, to the commitment that he showed in terms of rehab,” Gaine said. “He handled it like a true pro. I think he’s a very good example to follow for young players. When you do have those times and places where maybe adversity strikes, I thought he handled it very well. Worked hard with our doctors. I think he’s a very good example for young players to follow when and if that happens.”

The 22-year-old has made blown past all of the expectations and timetables for his recovery up to this point in time that he has him well on track to be back on the field for Week 1. He has continued to remain ahead of schedule while slowing down in the process or experience any setbacks.

Watson may be set to take the field to start the 2018 campaign, the Texans will keep a close eye on the rehab while allowing him to work through the kinks that have come with him being unable to take the field for an extended period of time. Keep in mind, he is dealing with an injury that typically takes between nine months to a year to fully recover.

The Texans have been quite high on the future prospects for what the Clemson product brings to the table given what he had shown prior to the injury in his first year that could have had him on pace to both earn the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year award while pushing his team into playoff contention. Nonetheless, this could see the Texans emerge as one of the top teams in the NFL next season with Watson leading the charge.
