The Houston Texans already have the No. 3 pick and No. 13 pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, but now they're exploring the possibility of trying to get a second top-10 pick by using that 13th selection, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
The Texans got that No. 13 pick from the Cleveland Browns in the Deshaun Watson trade. Houston got a massive haul in the Watson deal, also acquiring two more first-round picks (2023, 2024), a fourth-round pick in 2022, a third-round pick in 2023 and a fourth-round pick in 2024. Houston sent Cleveland a 2024 sixth-round pick along with Watson.
So, the Texans have quite a bit of extra draft capital to spend for an attempt at trading up. It's unclear who their target might be with a second selection in the top 10, but if there's somebody they really like, it seems they're prepared to make a move to get him.
Article Continues BelowHouston is attempting to start over after the Watson drama. The Texans went just 4-13 last season without Watson playing and 4-12 the year before that when Watson was still under center. Now Watson is gone and Lovie Smith has replaced David Culley as the head coach after just one season at the helm in Houston.
There are a lot of holes on this roster to fill. The Texans could look to grab a quarterback to compete with youngster Davis Mills, but there are plenty of ways they can go because they need help on both sides of the ball.
