The Houston Texas fired general manager on Brian Gaine on Thursday, the team announced on Twitter.

We will began in immediate search for a new G.M. In the interim, Football Operations will be led by Senior Vice President of Football Administration Chris Olsen. While the timing may be unusual, this decision was made in the best interest of our organization in our quest to build a championship team for the City of Houston.”
Gaine signed a five-year contract to be Houston's general manager in January 2018, after incumbent Rick Smith announced he was taking a leave of absence from the team. During his lone season as the Texans' prime decision-maker, they went 11-5 and won the AFC South before losing to the Indianapolis Colts at home in the first round of the playoffs.
Gaine was on the practice squad of the New York Jets, New York Giants, and Kansas City Chiefs in the late 1990s, both failing to make an active roster and appearing in an NFL game during his playing career. He transitioned to the executive side of football in 1999, when he was hired as a scout for the Jets. Gaine steadily rose up the management ranks through multiple organizations, first landing with the Texans in 2014 as the team's Director of Player Personnel.
