After spending the last nine years with the Houston Texans,  two-time Pro Bowl cornerback Jonathan Joseph will suit up for another team in 2020.

On Wednesday, the Texans announced that they will not extend the contract of the 14-year NFL veteran, making him an unrestricted free agent.

Joseph, 35, has been a mainstay of the Texans defense for nearly a decade. Now, with his future uncertain, the former first-round pick took time to say goodbye to Houston.

“I’m forever a Texan. I’m a Texan for life,” Joseph told Mark Berman of FOX26. I’m forever grateful for the chance to become a Texan. My time here was the best memories I have in the NFL.”

Last season, the veteran cornerback started 11 of 14 games and recorded 51 tackles, 13 passes defended, and one interception.

“My goal was to come here and help Andre Johnson and the Houston Texans bring a championship to the city of Houston,” Joseph said. “I obviously came up short with that goal, but we had some fun times and was able to change the landscape of the way defense was able to play.”

Joseph made Pro Bowl appearances in his first two years in Houston. However, he will be 36 years old next month and will be one of the oldest cornerbacks in the league provided he is signed by another team.
