One of the biggest challenges facing new Houston Texans head coach Lovie Smith is the situation with star quarterback Deshaun Watson, who is facing ongoing legal issues. On Tuesday, Smith was asked about when a possible resolution to Watson's legal issues could occur, prompting an honest response from the veteran coach, via NBC Sports.

“As soon as possible. I’m not running away from the question, but as soon as possible,” Smith said. “There are things that need to be taken care of before the football part comes into play. We’re patient, we’ve waited an entire year and I just feel like this offseason, it’ll come to an end and we’ll get it solved and it’ll be good for both parties, whatever that might be.”

Texans head coach Lovie Smith wants a resolution to the Deshaun Watson legal issues “as soon as possible.” Smith is absolutely right that this kind of situation needs to be taken care of before “the football part comes into play.”

The last thing any head coach needs is for a distraction like the Watson one to be ongoing when the team is trying to compete on Sundays.

It will be interesting to see if the Texans try to trade the star quarterback in the coming weeks. Smith may not have to even coach Watson if that's the case.
