The Indianapolis Colts have been the best team in the NFL this season. That's a sentence no one expected to say this season, yet here we are. The Colts have the best record in the NFL at 6-1, and their play has backed it up. Behind the excellence of Jonathan Taylor, Daniel Jones' steady hand at quarterback, and a stout defense, Indy is primed to be one of the hottest contenders in the playoffs.

That being said, there's no room to be complacent in the NFL. Teams are always looking to get better, even in the middle of the season. The trade deadline is the perfect avenue for teams looking for a mid-season upgrade. The Colts, like every other team, are looking to make a move at the trade deadline. What could they possibly want? Well, insider Jordan Schultz has an answer for that question.

“The #Colts, who own the NFL’s best record at 6-1, are viewed around the league as a team to watch ahead of the trade deadline — with their focus on adding a proven defensive playmaker, per sources,” Schultz reported. “Indy has experimented with in-season free agent signings and even players coming out of retirement, but targeting a real difference-maker for DC Lou Anarumo is something to watch.”

The Colts have had a solid defense this season, but they are going to be challenged in the latter half of the season. They'll take on the resurgent Kansas City Chiefs, an Aaron Rodgers-led Steelers, the Sam Darnold Seahawks, and a (presumably healthy) 49ers in the back half of the season. That's not even including two dates against division rivals Jacksonville Jaguars, who have the potential to explode when everything goes right for them.

One name to look out for at the trade deadline is Cincinnati Bengals pass-rusher Trey Hendrickson. Despite having interest from other teams, the Bengals aren't keen to trade their best defender. However, should things drastically change after the next two weeks, Hendrickson could be up for grabs. The 2024 sacks leader was a key part of Anarumo's schemes in Cincinnati, and he could swing the tides in the Colts' favor.
