The Kansas City Chiefs are in an interesting position ahead of the 2022 NFL Draft. The Chiefs still have one of the best quarterback-head coach combinations in the NFL in Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid, though a lot has changed around the two. Star wideout Tyreek Hill is now in Miami, which means that one of the league's best offenses will now look a whole lot different. Not only that, but star safety Tyrann Mathieu looks like he's also heading out the door and the team lost cornerback Charvarius Ward, leaving multiple question marks on defense. Kansas City will compete as long as Mahomes and Reid are in town, though the Chiefs seemed to stay in place while the other AFC West teams got significantly better. As such, the Chiefs will have to turn to the draft, where they are armed with the 29th and 30th picks. For this piece in particular, we'll focus on their 30th pick.

There are a number of different directions the Chiefs can go with the 30th selection. They could focus on improving the wide receiver corps with a speedy deep threat, with plenty of those available for the taking. Or, the Chiefs could take advantage of this opportunity and improve the defense, which was their Achilles heel this past season. The draft is loaded with talent across all three levels of defense, so there should be no shortage of options available for Kansas City.

That said, here are the three best players the Chiefs can select with the 30th pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.

3 Best Players Chiefs Can Select With 30th Pick In NFL Draft

3. Devin Lloyd

Article Continues Below

Linebacker isn't particularly a position of need, though Devin Lloyd would be a perfect fit for the Chiefs defense. He's versatile enough to play any of the linebacker spots and is excellent in both pass coverage and as a tackler. The Utah product led the team with 110 tackles, posted seven sacks and intercepted four passes. Lloyd is a do-it-all type linebacker who would immediately bring some stability to the Chiefs' linebacking corps. Lloyd would help Kansas City defend the middle of the field, an area where they have struggled in recent years. He would also step in as perhaps one of their most sure tacklers right off the bat.

2. Andrew Booth Jr.

The Chiefs' secondary took a hit with Charvarius Ward, who was seen as a player on the rise before his departure. As such, Kansas City could look to address the corner spot with one of their picks. Andrew Booth would make a lot of sense for the Chiefs. The Clemson product was unable to participate at the combine due to a quad injury, though he is expected to be just fine in the long-term. As such, Booth has been mocked all over the place. As high as in the top-10 in some places and all the way down to the second round in others. If the talented corner falls to them, Kansas City should take advantage. Booth does have limited experience as a starter, as noted by NFL.com. The Chiefs, who have L'Jarius Sneed and Rashad Fenton as projected starters, can afford to have Booth as their third corner.

1. Jameson Williams

Speaking of injuries, one that could scare off NFL teams is Jameson Williams' ACL injury. Williams is expected to be ready for training camp, though no one knows whether the injury will prevent him from returning to the form he displayed at Alabama. Williams was the best playmaker in the nation at the wide receiver spot, as he was a touchdown waiting to happen. He totaled over 1500 yards and has drawn a comparison to speedy wideout Will Fuller. The Chiefs could have an exciting receiver corps featuring JuJu Smith-Schuster, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Mecole Hardman and Williams. That's a lot of speed for defenses to have to account for.
