Only a week ago, the Kansas City Chiefs and Tyreek Hill were on their way to a lucrative contract extension. Keeping one of Patrick Mahomes' key targets seemed like a priority, yet they reversed course and traded him to the Miami Dolphins. How did such a crazy trade happen after an extension was almost inevitable?

The Davante Adams trade and extension happened. According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Las Vegas Raiders making a splash for the Green Bay Packers' superstar, which included a gigantic extension, made Hill reconsider his demands. They were too steep for Kansas City's liking, which led to them trading Hill to the Miami Dolphins, who gave him a huge extension.

Adams and the Raiders unintentionally drove up the price for Hill. In more ways than one, they got the best of their AFC West rival. Although Kansas City has tons of draft capital and cap space to work with, they will badly miss Hill's presence in the passing game. With Travis Kelce being the lone highly dependable target, Mahomes' life will be much harder. Especially with the Denver Broncos and Los Angeles Chargers making big moves, the Chiefs are struggling to keep up.

The Hill trade shocked the NFL world and will drastically change how both the Chiefs and Dolphins build their teams. While Miami looks to load up on offensive talent, KC will have to find a deep threat. They have plenty of assets at their disposal to do it but finding someone as dynamic as Hill will be a major challenge.
