Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy has been an NFL head coaching candidate for three years now, but he still hasn't been hired. Jobs are running out for this hiring cycle, so there's a chance he misses out yet again despite all his success with the Chiefs and his expressed desire to be a head coach.

American singer-songwriter John Legend was just the latest to campaign for Bieniemy:

Bieniemy has been at the helm with the Chiefs since 2013, starting out as the team's running backs coach. He served the position until 2017 and was eventually promoted to be the Chiefs' offensive coordinator in 2018, a role which he holds to this day.

His involvement in developing one of the league's top offenses featuring star quarterback Patrick Mahomes ultimately garnered the attention of many teams, especially after their Super Bowl LIV win last season.

Bieniemy has interviewed with a handful of rebuilding squads as the Chiefs made their way to postseason proceedings. He reportedly held virtual meetings with the New York Jets, Jacksonville Jaguars, Detroit Lions, Atlanta Falcons, Los Angeles Chargers, and, most recently, the Houston Texans.

Among all the teams, only the Texans' head coaching position remains vacant to this day. Houston may very well hire Bieniemy, perhaps in a last-gasp attempt to convince Deshaun Watson to stay, but the seemingly irreparable relationship between Watson and Texans owner Cal McNair could have an impact here.

Nevertheless, Eric Bieniemy is still in a good position with Chiefs squad now heading to defend their title in the upcoming Super Bowl against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He would have to wait another year and try his luck next offseason if he totally misses out on the Texans' head coaching job in the months to come, but another Super Bowl victory would at least be a decent consolation prize.
