The Kansas City Chiefs are already without running back Kareem Hunt, and now, they may also be without stud wide receiver Tyreek Hill.
That means Patrick Mahomes is going to need to find another top target going into 2019, and while he is surveying the options, he is coming away very impressed with rookie wide out Mecole Hardman.
“He’s a great player,” Mahomes said, per Kirk Larrabee of 247 Sports. “Obviously, he’s very fast, but he’s working on everything – route running, really getting accustomed to the offense. I was very excited (that he was drafted). When you add guys and add depth, it really is a special thing to know the staff is going to keep adding and keep adding and never be satisfied with where we’re at.”
Hardman, who played his collegiate football at the University of Georgia, was selected by the Chiefs in the second round (56th pick overall) of the 2019 NFL Draft last month.
Article Continues BelowHe was not all that productive in college, as he hauled in just 35 receptions for 543 yards and seven touchdowns during his final season at Georgia, but his Scouting Combine was off the charts, as the 21-year-old ran a 4.33-second 40-yard dash.
The Chiefs, meanwhile, are coming off of a 2018 campaign in which they won 12 games and captured the AFC West division title. They then defeated the Indianapolis Colts in the Divisional Round of the playoffs before falling to the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship Game.
With Kansas City lacking a couple of its big-time weapons from 2018, Hardman may find himself being depended upon much more than he originally anticipated.
