NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported that Kansas City Chiefs star quarterback Patrick Mahomes should have an improved feeling with his turf toe just in time for their Super Bowl showdown against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Turf toe refers to strains of the big toe. He will meet with a specialist and a procedure after the season is an option. Mahomes will most likely not be limited in practices.
Mahomes has just recently cleared the NFL's concussion protocol late last week. He had a great game against the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Championship. Mahomes passed for 325 yards with three touchdowns and no picks. He completed 29 of his 38 pass attempts en route to a 38-24 victory.
Chiefs left tackle Eric Fisher tore his Achilles in the fourth quarter. An Achilles tear is one of the most serious sports injuries and Fisher will undoubtedly miss the Super Bowl.
The two-time Pro Bowler may not be in the highlight reels like Mahomes, Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce, but he is instrumental to the Kansas City offense. He helped keep Mahomes' jersey clean in their run to the Super Bowl last year and was solid again this season.
The Chiefs face the Bucs in two weeks, which will give head coach Andy Reid much needed time to make necessary adjustments and game plan. Mahomes will be able to further adjust to his turf toe.
The highly anticipated matchup will feature explosive passing attacks. Kansas City and Tampa Bay have the first and fourth-most passing yards in the regular season.
