The Kansas City Chiefs have not ruled out Patrick Mahomes for Sunday's matchup with the Vikings. Instead, the superstar quarterback is questionable to play at Arrowhead, according to the Chiefs' latest injury report.
Mahomes suffered a dislocated his patella (knee cap) in a win over the Denver Broncos in Week 7. He quickly returned to practice heading into Week 8's tilt with the Green Bay Packers, only for the Chiefs to rest him. He has been limited all week in practice.
If Mahomes does not play, Matt Moore will get the start for the second straight week.
On Wednesday, head coach Andy Reid said he will take the Chiefs' quarterback situation day-to-day.
“We’ll see,” Reid said, via Charles Goldman of the Chiefs Wire. “We’ll see how it goes. I’m taking it day by day here. I’m going to watch them do their thing and see how they do.”
Last week, in Kansas City's loss to Green Bay, Moore threw for 267 yards and a pair of touchdowns on a 66% completion rate. He has filled in nicely for Mahomes and Reid is happy with what he has done filling in for the 2018 MVP.
“Listen, I appreciate how he handled his business last week,” Reid said. “I don’t know him as well as maybe the other guys, but I liked what I saw. He goes about it the right way. The players around him have confidence, which ends up being very important.”
Nonetheless, the Chiefs are a better team with Mahomes playing. Considering the Vikings matchup won't be an easy task, Reid and Co. may trot him out to regain their stronghold on the AFC West after a loss. Or, they will rest him for the stretch run.
