Week 4 was the first time in the 2019 NFL season that Kansas City Chiefs Patrick Mahomes failed to score a touchdown. Regardless, he is still happy to have maintained the flawless start to the year.
Mahomes' outing against the Detroit Lions may have been the most modest one today. According to Mitch Carney of the Chiefs Wire, he is simply focused on doing what it takes to secure the win.
“It’s not always about the touchdowns and the yards-it’s about finding a way to win,” said Mahomes. “If that was running for the first down, it that was handing the ball off when you have my running backs work for me, I mean, I’m going to do that. If you want to be a great as a team, as a player, it’s how you win the game. So for me, I’m just going to go out there every single week and do whatever it takes to win.”
It is encouraging to see that Mahomes is not getting too caught up in all the talk about the stellar numbers he has put up since taking over under center. He is hardly a stranger to enjoying productive days, and it seems he is happy to get his other teammates involved in a big win.
Mahomes' comments are an encouraging sign for the state of the Chiefs' offense. They have largely predicated their success on the reigning MVP putting up monster numbers. Their win against the Lions proved they have other players more than capable of stepping up.
Regardless, there is no doubt that Kansas City will be relying on Mahomes to reach the end zone more often than not. It is safe to assume fans will be expecting a shootout against the Indianapolis Colts on primetime in Week 5.
