With September coming to a close on Monday, the NFL announced the winners for the league's monthly awards. To no one's surprise, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback, Patrick Mahomes, won the AFC's Offensive Player of the Month Award, per Ian Rapoport.

After throwing for 5,097 yards and 50 touchdowns in an MVP season in 2018, everyone believed that Mahomes was due for regression this season. In response, the Chiefs gunslinger has been nearly perfect with 1,510 yards, 10 touchdowns, and no interceptions in September.

With that in mind, Mahomes is on a torrid pace to throw for 6,040 yards and 40 touchdowns in 2019. Of course, you would assume that the talented signal-caller will throw an interception at some point.

Over the first month of the season, the Chiefs quarterback has led Kansas City to a 4-0 record. The Chiefs are just one of the two remaining teams in the NFL to remain without a loss in four games. As a matter of fact, the only other team that has played four games and hasn't suffered a loss is the New England Patriots.

The most impressive aspect of Mahomes' season so far is that he has been without Tyreek Hill since Week 1. While he has been out, Mahomes has been able to tread along remarkably with Sammy Watkins, Demarcus Robinson, and Mecole Hardman at wide receiver.

Along with being named the AFC's Offensive Player of the Month, it is safe to say that Mahomes leads the NFL in the early-season MVP race. The last player to win back-to-back MVP Awards was Peyton Manning in 2008 and 2009.
