The Kansas City Chiefs have listed wide receiver Sammy Watkins as questionable for Sunday’s home game against the Jacksonville Jaguars due to a hamstring injury which he sustained on Monday night against the Denver Broncos. Watkins, one of the fastest players in the game, was a limited participant in practice all week.
The Chiefs enter their big matchup versus the Jaguars at 4-0. Watkins, who signed a three-year, $48 million contract with Kansas City in March, has 14 receptions on the season for 176 yards and one touchdown. He is averaging 12.6 yards per reception.
Article Continues BelowChiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is the talk of the league right now, and rightfully so. The second-year phenom has thrown for 1,200 yards and 14 touchdowns through four games, with zero interceptions. Against a stout Jaguars defense, though, it would be beneficial for Mahomes if Watkins plays Sunday. Watkins' ability to stretch the field and catch deep passes is an attribute which is not easy to replace.
The Chiefs still have elite playmakers in tight end Travis Kelce, wideout Tyreek Hill, running back Kareem Hunt, and receiver De'Anthony Thomas, but this Jaguars defense is the real deal, and cornerback Jalen Ramsey is a shutdown corner. Safety Barry Church and cornerback Tyler Patmon are also good players on defense, so even though this Chiefs offense is rolling at the moment, they are in for a tough test Sunday.
